The defending champions of the Petron Time Speed Distance Championship, the Reyes family, crushed the competition in the recent Petron Mabuhay Independence Rally to top the Individual Overall and Family Divisions. They also pushed the Mini Team to 1st overall in the Team Championship.
The Reyes Team was composed of patriarch Ray Reyes and his children Denise, Paula and Justin. They used the Mini Cooper 5 door and were partnered with 2nd Overall winners Stuart Samson, Alexis Angeles and Charles Mondragon in the other Mini entry.
MP Turbo’s on time, all the time, rally adventure was held around the province of Cavite and was supported by Governor Boying Remulla and the Cavite Tourism Provincial Board. The official sponsors were Mini Philippines, Kia Philippines, Uni Writing Instruments, South Asialink Finance Corporation, Motolite, Ziebart, Autohub Car Care Services, Fast Aid and Foton. Media partners are Manila Times, C! Magazine, Targa Philippines and Time Attack.
The Mabuhay Independence Rally went around the historic sites of Cavite like the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, the monuments of the Battle of Binakayan, Battle of Imus, 13 Martyrs in Trece Martirez City, the Tejeros Convention, the Museo ng Paglilitis ni Bonifacio in Maragondon and the GBR Museum in General Trias.
The Bonifacio Shrine in Maragondon was not passable after incessant rains and had to be cancelled. The rally also featured a lot of trivia contests like the Amazing Race and there were stops at the Aguinaldo Shrine, where Governor Remulla met the participants and flagged them off, and the GBR Museum, the final stop and finish of the rally.
The best Novice crew was the first timers of the Bayud Resort Team Siargao of Remi Barbers, Carlos and Igo Loinaz. They finished in 4th overall and was the surprise of the rally. The Tuason family members of Mother Jackie, sons Andrew and Joao came in 2nd novice entry and 3rd was Team Ribbon ARC’s Elysse Menorca, Quattro Adriano, Kim Jigger Chong and Gabriel Señires.
A perfect 1-2 finish for the Mini Teams showed how tight the competition was between these 2 team mates. Samson’s Team was leading the rally in terms of overall time demerits but was overhauled by the Reyes Team when the trivia contests and DIY picture bonuses where handed out. The Reyes even took a perfect zero demerits in the road book trivia and ended with an overall score of 266 demerits. Team Samson got 502 demerits for 2nd place.
Settling for 3rd Overall was Go Flat Out’s Janferds Balois, Jerald Valdez and Boy Eusebio with 1037. They helped Go Flat Out to take 2nd in the Team Division with James Tagle and Nikki Briones coming in at 7th overall in the individual category. 3rd Team awardee was the KIA Team of father and son Raul and Benjie Tuason with Kyra Baricaua who finished in 6th overall and team mates Bong Africa, Jon Francisco and Jahan Kalam in 11th.
The next MP Turbo TSD event will be a Car Club Wars edition and will be scheduled soon. Interested parties can message the organizers at email@example.com or check out Mike Potenciano’s FB account
